Back Yard, Bottom

Sept. 29, 2003:

This area is at the very bottom of our back yard, leading down to the golf course.
The soil in this area is so thick with roots and rocks that we can hardly get a pick in the ground.
We have tried things like the Ajuga seen here, but even that hardy plant did not survive.
The French Mulberry has done okay, but that is about it.

The irises shown below have grown but not bloomed much. This area gets about as much or more sun as any other place in our yard and we keep the tops of the rhizomes cleared off, so I don't know what the problem is. Irises usually do well in poor soil conditions.
